Art projects and plein airs: Participation in the Dauderi Museum

Art is a continuous process of exploration that goes beyond the studio space. Each new challenge that Paint & Progress artists engage in is an opportunity not only to create new works, but also to become part of a broader cultural space. One of the most striking examples of this path of experience is our participation in the Dauderi Museum project.

Art projects in historical settings

Participating in the exhibition at the Dauderi Museum was a significant event that allowed our works to gain a new context. Placing paintings in an environment whose history stretches back centuries means finding a dialogue between the architectural majesty of the space and contemporary forms of painting.

Such participation in projects provides invaluable experience – the artist can see how his works “live” outside the studio walls. It is an opportunity to analyze the interaction of light, space and the viewer, which is an integral part of professional growth.

Plein air: Reflection of the image of the castle in nature

As part of the project, our artist Dzintara Kalnins went to Dauderi Castle to capture its essence in the open air. Painting in person is a challenge that requires not only technical skill, but also the ability to quickly perceive the nuances of the moment – the play of light and shadow on the castle facade, as well as the mood of the surrounding nature.

Dzintar's participation in the plein air shows that we focus not only on aesthetics, but also on research. The depiction of the castle requires respect for proportions and architectural details, while maintaining painterly freedom. Such plein airs are the foundation on which our ability to later transform what we see and turn it into a work of art is based.

Why does Paint & Progress get involved in projects?

The new blog category “Studio Participation in Projects” is designed to document our creative backbone. Our participation in exhibitions and plein airs are not just isolated events; they are purposeful steps in the realization of our artistic ambitions.

We believe that:

  • Artists should be active participants in cultural events.
  • Participation in significant projects, such as the Dauderi Museum, raises our creative bar.
  • The experience gained on such trips is invaluable in our future activities.

Thank you To the Dauder Museum for trust. We will continue to look for new creative challenges and share them in this blog section.

Radio interview: The living story of the exhibition

Our participation in the project and the process of creating the works in the exhibition were also discussed in more detail in the Latvian Radio 1 program “Labrīt”. In the radio recording, the artists explain in depth the concept of the exhibition and why the works chose such themes.
